Resumen

El uso de pantallas y el uso de Internet tienen un efecto esencial en la calidad de vida de los adultos mayores, sin embargo, faltan estudios que reflejen cómo afecta ese uso al sentimiento de satisfacción vital. Este estudio investiga las relaciones entre el uso de Internet y satisfacción vital entre adultos mayores y explora el rol mediador de la interacción social tanto dentro como fuera de Internet. Se seleccionó a 1274 participantes de 68 años a 82 años (732 mujeres y 542 hombres). Entre los encuestados, el 54% estaba formado por personas que asistían a centros de mayores (688 personas), y el resto estaba configurado por personas que no asistían a centros de mayores. Los resultados indicaron que el uso de Internet está relacionado con la satisfacción vital de los adultos mayores y que la interacción social fuera de Internet mediaba el uso de Internet. Nuestros hallazgos sugieren que el uso de Internet podría mejorar la vida de las personas mayores al fomentar la interacción social fuera de línea. Por consiguiente, la sociedad debe crear entornos para ayudar a lograr que los adultos mayores socialicen dentro de la sociedad virtual, mejorando así la interacción social fuera de línea.
