Abstract

This article examines television series to explore how narratives are constructed from first, second, and third-person perspectives. These points of view can derive from what the camera shows, what the narrator says, or what is heard in the voice-over, and can be expressed in first, second, or third person. It argues that personal perspectives in series are linked to the concept of focalization. Narrators play a crucial role in shaping the focalization that guides the narrative perspective. The study reviews how the notion of point of view has been examined in narratives, focusing on the concept of focalization. Genette (1972/1989) distinguishes between three types of focalization: zero, internal, and external. Finally, these three narrative forms and their relationship with focalization will be developed.
