Abstract

This work seeks to explore certain parallels between two forms of literary and pictorial representation, specifically those associated with certain methods used in the portraits of Velázquez and the enunciative approach characteristic to the picaresque. Classic works by Ortega and Maravall on the Sevillian painter serve as the starting point for these observations.
