Abstract

In this conversation, Thomas Sieverts reflects about the dissolution of the compact city and its transformation into the Zwischenstadt, of which peri-urban landscapes – subject of this ZARCH monograph – are an essential part. During the talk, he also addresses how global challenges affect the development conditions of the contemporary city. His concern about the rapid environmental transformations that our planet is undergoing is constant, as is his eagerness to understand the consequences that have a direct impact on the city and its growth processes.

  • Carmen Díez Medina, Universidad de Zaragoza

    Madrid, 1962. She is an architect (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, ETSAM, UPM) and holds a Ph.D. from the Fakultät für Architektur und Raumplanung (Architecture and Planning), Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien). Full Professor of Architectural History at the Escuela de Ingeniería y Arquitectura (EINA), University of Zaragoza. Visiting Professor at Dipartimento di Architettura e Studi Urbani (DAStU), Politecnico di Milano. Research stays within the frame of research projects at Institut für Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur (gta), ETH Zürich and at DAStU, Politecnico di Milano. Main researcher of the research group Paisajes Urbanos y Proyecto Contemporáneo (PUPC) (www.pupc.unizar.es). Recent books, Ciudad de Bloques. reflexiones retrospectivas y prospectivas sobre los polígonos de vivienda ‘modernos’ and Urban Visions.
